Florida operates under a state preemption law (F.S. 330.41) that prevents local municipalities from creating their own drone ordinances beyond what the FAA permits at the federal level. In practice, this simplifies commercial operations considerably — a single FAA Part 107 certificate and the appropriate airspace authorizations cover the legal requirements across all 67 counties.

That said, Florida's sheer density of airports, military installations, and temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) demands careful pre-flight planning regardless of local ordinances. The state hosts major Class B surfaces at MIA, FLL, TPA, MCO, and JAX; Class C at RSW, SRQ, PIE, and PNS; numerous Class D towers; and an extensive network of military training routes and special use airspace (SUA) across the Panhandle, central Florida, and coastal ranges.

Florida also has a robust beach and state park system, many of which fall under NPS, FDEP, or county authority. Some locations require permits separate from FAA authorization — particularly for commercial photography at state parks, national seashores like Canaveral, or protected wildlife nesting areas during sea turtle or bird nesting season.

Our home market is Tampa Bay — shoots within the greater metro area (roughly Brooksville to Sarasota, east to Lakeland) carry no travel fee. Day-trip destinations reachable within two hours each way — including Orlando, Naples, Fort Myers, and Ocala — are quoted with a flat travel addition that covers fuel and drive time. We keep these predictable so clients can budget accurately from the start.

For multi-day productions in South Florida, Jacksonville, the Panhandle, or destinations requiring an overnight stay, we bill accommodation at cost plus a standard per-diem. Equipment travels with us by vehicle — no airline freight costs and no re-rental risk at the destination. For productions where the timeline demands we be on-site multiple days (construction documentation, multi-location shoots, or film sets), we scope a full production travel package upfront so there are no mid-project surprises.
